Ariana Grande’s new studio album

Pop artist Ariana Grande released her seventh studio album Eternal Sunshine on March 8th , and fans have been raving about it since Grande announced its release on January 17th. After a four-year hiatus, Grande has returned with her signature pop RnB sound and dreamy harmonies. According to recent headlines, the album has gotten a fair bit of publicity.

The theme of this album is heartbreak. Without sounding too much like Grande’s fourth studio album Sweetener, she portrays the difficult stages of a breakup through soft harmonies and emotional ballads. The album will have listeners laughing, crying, and dancing all the way through.

Ariana has a devoted fan base who supports anything she puts out and with that in mind, Grande always makes sure to release her best and nothing less. Fans have been yearning for early aughts melodies and they got their wish in the song The Boy Is Mine, originally by Brandy and Monica. The single yes, and? threw fans for a loop with its classic disco sound that does not match the sound of the rest of the album. The titles and lyrics caught fans by surprise, but to Ariana’s benefit, these songs had no issue going viral on social media.

Avid music listeners were skeptical about this album not because it was written and produced in a short period, but because of what and who the album would be about. In July 2023, news broke about Ariana’s relationship with Wicked costar Ethan Slater. This would not have caused as much of a stir as it did if Ethan was not married.

While the details of loyalty have become twisted, Ethan’s infidelity has been a recurring theme. Ariana is not the first celebrity to be caught in a scandal like this. However, spectators agree that she could have handled it a lot better.

“Her not setting the record straight is kind of confirming that she wrecked a home because it could have just been a fling,” said Deerfield Beach High School senior Bethsairah Jerome.

Those who are not coming from a biased standpoint due to the love of the singer and her music say that her fans are taking the controversy too personally.

“They’re acting like they know Ariana personally and that justifies attacking her. I do think what she did was messed up but it’s not something you need to be bombarding her DMs over,” DBHS senior Kishana Jean-Louis said.

Fans may never know what certain songs are about due to Ariana writing them in a way that can be interpreted differently depending on the listener. The details of her relationship with Slater may forever remain a mystery; there is her side, the wife’s side, and then there is the truth. But with Ariana doing interviews for the album, perhaps she will clear the air of this messy controversy.
