The future of the hit MAX series
The hit MAX original series Euphoria dropped back in 2020 and captured the hearts of fans instantly with its heavy yet relatable subject matter and unconventional style. It catapulted the careers of actors like Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi and further solidified Zendaya’s status as an A-List actress. Now, with season 3 confirmed, fans are wondering about the future of the show.
As much as Euphoria has become renowned for its storylines and fashion, it has also become notorious for its lengthy hiatuses between seasons. Seasons one and two were three years apart. If all goes to plan, season three will not be out until 2025. Now, this could be for a variety of reasons. Scheduling issues and the happening of the SAG-AFTRA strike are the most likely reasons. It does beg the question if fans will still be interested in the show by then. This is why it was rumored that season three will have a time skip so that the characters grow with the now late teens and adult audience.
“I think it’s taking so long because they are either finding replacements for who they lost or are coming up with solutions in the plot to make up for losing part of the cast,” said Deerfield Beach High School junior Daniel Sasson.
It is no secret that season three will feel different because the main cast that fans know will not be there. Barbie Ferreira, who plays Kat, announced last year that she would not be returning due to her character being written poorly in her eyes. Angus Cloud, who played Fezco, will also not be returning, but for a more unfortunate reason. On July 31st, 2023, Angus Cloud passed away from a substance overdose. His passing hit fans hard, and some believe that the show should not continue without him.
“It won’t be the same. Angus was the reason I started watching the show,” said DBHS junior Nhema Smith.
With the show having such a lengthy break between seasons, it’s given fans plenty of time to come up with predictions for the next season.
“I expect the next season to not have as much substance use as the character who spread that around is now gone; unless they replace him,” says Daniel Sasson.
“They should cancel and give us a written ending,” Nhema Smith adds on.
Euphoria has paved the way for better representation of mental health and experimental fashion trends. But with cast members not returning and the show not getting released anytime soon, its future is looking more uncertain. How will the show explain Fezco and Kat’s absence? What will the plot be this time around? Fans will have to wait and see.
