The Butler Scholarship

The Butler Scholarship was created in 1976 by J.D. Butler and Alice Butler in memory of their children Evelyn Butler, Reba Butler, and J.D. Butler Jr. Mrs. Butler wished to be able to aid students who could not afford all the expenses that follow pursuing higher education and were graduating from Deerfield Beach High School.

For students interested in applying, the application must be completed and transmitted by Monday, April 15th, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. on The Center for Scholarship Administration website; there will be no exceptions nor any way to reach out for help with accommodations after this deadline.

Qualifications for the scholarship include the following: students must be graduates of DBHS, enroll full-time (12 credits) each semester of college, maintain a GPA of 2.0 for applicants who are currently Deerfield seniors and a 2.5 GPA for applicants who are already in college or have already attended college.

The scholarship amount is determined by factors such as academic GPA, financial need, participation in activities, and type of university (2 years, 4 years, vocational, etc.).

To avoid any issues, students should be informed that anybody who is a member or the spouse of a member of the J. D. Butler and Alice W. Butler Memorial Foundation Scholarship Committee; a descendant, child, grandchild, great-grandchild of any Butler Scholarship Committee member or their spouses are not eligible to apply or receive this scholarship.

“I am not going to apply for the scholarship myself, but I know people who have, and I think it’s really awesome that it gives people the chance to get their education even if they do not have the funds for it.” said DBHS senior Nicholas Chavez.

Before applying, students should make sure they meet all the qualifications required. If they are chosen to be awarded the scholarship, students will be notified in writing by email and sent a scholarship agreement and information about the scholarship terms.

The Butler Scholarship gives students the opportunity to further their education. It’s one of the most defining features of Deerfield Beach High School, as every student has the resources to receive this chance.
