Link’s new adventure

Introducing the newest adventure for Link, the protagonist of Nintendo’s video game franchise; The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The game is making its debut on May 12th of 2023 and will cost $69.99. Unlike Breath of the Wild, which was released in 2017, Tears of the Kingdom will be a game exclusive to Nintendo Switch.

“An epic adventure across the land and skies of Hyrule. Players will harness the power of Link’s new abilities to fight back against the malevolent forces that threaten the kingdom.” Nintendo explained.

The Legend of Zelda has yet to show much gameplay of combat or puzzles, but fans have seen new and expanded ways to travel through Hyrule, a medieval-based fantasy land and the main setting of the series. Looking at the trailers, Link seems to have several new weapon options being bows, axes, swords, and shields. These are used to fight both familiar and new enemies.

Tears of the Kingdom will be taking a much darker and angsty turn than its predecessor. Malicious intent spreads across the kingdom, pushing Hyrule Castle into the sky and even going as far as attacking Link. His arm appears to be rotting with malice, all burnt to a near crisp. The sword he wields, The Master Sword, is too corrupted and melted for any further use.

“Of course, I watched a timeline video on YouTube about three or five times. I even go as for to say I’m a master of the Breath of the Wild. Tears of the Kingdom better get game of the Year,” said DBHS freshman Joel Morales.

Among the little snippets of the game, Link has a mysterious, powerful, and glowing green arm; one that looked burnt in the February 2023 trailer. Nintendo also has not quite shown what his arm does or how it works, though it does appear to have powers that will let players solve puzzles, manipulate the environment, and even time itself.

Many are ecstatic about this game coming back as the 27th anniversary was celebrated recently on February 21st. It looks like the franchise has no plans on letting the Legend of Zelda hero stop all his adventuring days just yet.
