Artists step into fashion on Grammys’ Night

The 65th annual Grammy Awards, hosted by South African comedian and actor Trevor Noah, is where many artists and entertainers showed out with their finest outfits at the prominent event. The public homage celebrates nominees like Adele, Beyoncé, Bad Bunny, Harry Styles, and many more. Along with performances from artists like Steve Lacy, Mary J. Blige, and a special set honoring the 50th anniversary of hip-hop.

The 2023 Grammy Awards were held on the night of February 5th in Los Angeles bringing together major and minor artists to one big screen, names that are rarely ever seen together; Omar Apollo, Kendrick Lamar, ABBA, Diplo, Coldplay, and more. Viewers saw several musical legends walk the red carpet delivered on the fashion front per usual.

This year, attendees stepped out in some outstanding custom creations. From Gucci and Alexander McQueen to Miu Miu and Versace. It is always one of the most exciting and daring red carpet displays of the year next to the Met Gala.

“There were a lot of odd outfits and great ones as well. My favorite outfit was Lil Uzi Vert. He is one of my favorite artists,” DBHS junior Maria Rodriguez said. Lil Uzi Vert presented a brand-new hairstyle featuring gelled spikes to match with an all-black suit with ribbons.

American rapper Cardi B consistently impresses at the Grammy’s, and this year was no exception. On the frontlines, she stunned in an electric cobalt blue Gaurav Gupta dress. Gupta is known for his themes surrounding surrealism and fanaticism, conducting images of dystopia which is a rising favorite for fashionistas. Later, she changed into a stunning Paco Rabanne costume to pay tribute to the late designer, who passed away just last week.

Adele kept things understated yet glam by donning a crimson velvet gown that Louis Vuitton had designed especially for her. It presented an off-the-shoulder ruffled neckline with sculptural detailing, and she accessorized it with striking diamond earrings to accentuate her trademark bouncy, blow-dry hair. It was indeed haute couture.

To keep things simple, 20-year-old pop singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo takes the sheer and minimal approach to her look. The former teen star wore a sheer floor-length gown in the color black from Miu Miu. Which was then paired with a nude makeup look and simple Tiffany & Co. jewelry. This particular style of fashion can be perceived as a message for “less is better” or in Olivia’s words, “You look good exactly as you are.”

Even with the majority of attendees wearing high-end fashion brands, wearing casual clothing is still amidst the sea of artists like Bad Bunny and Kendrick Lamar. The two singers wore baseball caps and everyday denimwear to receive their trophies. Wearing jeans and a white t-shirt conveys the sense that there are professional accomplishments more fascinating than collecting awards in addition to appearing cool and informal.

Every artist came and showed out on the red carpet, from extravagant gowns to simple yet elegant suits. On that night, every celebrity made a statement to the world that not only do they have the biggest hits, but they also have access to the highest fashion critiques and designs.
