Broward natives fighting for the championships

The NFL Playoffs Wild Card Round starts on Saturday, January 14th, and all the matches are highly anticipated. It kicks off with the Seattle Seahawks versus the San Francisco 49ers at 4:30 p.m. before the Los Angeles Chargers battle the Jacksonville Jaguars at 8:15 p.m.

In the Saturday slate, the playoffs feature two players who went to high school in Broward County. Those players happen to be one of the best brother pairings in the NFL; Joey and Nick Bosa. The Bosa brothers attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Nick, although the younger of the two, already has a Super Bowl appearance under his belt, while Joey is only in the second playoff appearance of his seven-year career. These two teams have a shot at facing each other in the Super Bowl.

The following three games on Sunday begin with the Miami Dolphins going up to New York to play against the Buffalo Bills. In a previous night’s game on Monday, January 2nd against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Bills’ defensive back Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on the field. After a long, successful recovery, Hamlin was released from the hospital and will cheer on his teammates as they make a run for the Lombardi Trophy. Buffalo is anticipated to be a threat to all the teams in the playoffs, and they will face Miami first.

The second game on January 15th will be played in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as the Vikings host the New York Giants at 4:30 p.m. Cornerback and Blanche Ely High star Patrick Peterson is a big part of the Vikings’ defense. Sunday’s games will be capped off with the Baltimore Ravens heading to Cincinnati to play against the Bengals. In this high-class matchup, there is a big name that is well-known in the Deerfield community. Outside linebacker and 12-year pro, Jason Pierre-Paul, who attended the “Home of the Bucks” plays for the Ravens. For the final game of the Wild Card Round on January 16th, the Dallas Cowboys face off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, at 8:15 p.m.

These six highly anticipated games make the NFL playoffs more exciting to watch. This 2023 experience should not disappoint. After the Divisional Round and Conference Championships, The Super Bowl will be played on February 12th, at Statefarm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, at 6:30 p.m. EST.
