BCPS cuts ties with Herff Jones

On February 7, 2023, the Broward County School Board voted to drop Herff Jones as their caps and gowns vendor, but this should not come to anyone’s surprise. The Broward County School Board has been moving to cut ties with the school service company since November of 2022.

A flux of high schools in the county decided to change the company they get their caps and gowns from after the initial movement to separate with Herff Jones. But Deerfield Beach High School decided to continue being a pertinent customer.

“When purchasing items from Herff Jones, it seemed like the company made it difficult to purchase cheaper packages or would over-complicate a simple purchase,” said DBHS senior Janiyah Clark believing the split was expected.

Despite Herff Jones providing the district with class rings, caps and gowns, and senior apparel since 1920, the 100-year relationship was severed due to bad customer service and being a fraud to all investors. Multiple audits show the district, parents, and students having been over billed by over half a million dollars in recent years.

Now that Herff Jones is out of the picture, juniors and seniors must order their caps and gowns or other senior apparel from Jostens, an American manufacturer of memorabilia that is known for its production of yearbooks and class rings. Students can look through the website for essentials and click anywhere on Josten’s Flyer to order. Ordering a student graduation regalia is essential for seniors that wish to participate in the Monday, June 5th, ceremony.

“Although this vendor switch changed my graduation plans, I believe it was beneficial. They provide better customer service and more affordable prices,” said Janiyah Clark.

From now on, Deerfield Beach High School juniors and seniors have until the ceremony to order their prideful souvenirs from Jostens
