College Tour Applications Available
The College Tour Program is now accepting new applicants to become a participant in the 2021-2022 school year. The Urban League of Broward County helps to promote achievement and college readiness through a rotation of foundational keys to success at Deerfield Beach High School.
They have students participate in self-development workshops, ACT/SAT preparation along with multiple tips, and college visits for port-secondary life. They also assist with the path to high school graduation through homework assistance, self-development, and community service, all with a mentor.
The College Tour Program is made possible by The Jim Moran Foundation, which allows D.B.H.S. students to ask questions, be introduced to new options, and gain a new understanding of college in the future.
This year concludes with a four-day State of Florida college tour to expose Deerfield students to the viability of college entry. However, there are requirements to be met before becoming eligible to sign up.
Applicants both new and returning must currently be attending D.B.H.S and complete the initial application. First-time applicants must be in 10th or 11th grade, have a grade point average between 2.5 – 3.2 unweighted on virtual counselor before submission.
Candidates will also be looked at for past academic or behavioral disciplinary action and eligibility for free or reduced lunch. Though there are considerations for a student with a G.P.A above 3.2, such as being a first-generation college student.
Interested students can download an application here or pick one up at student affairs in the 130 corridors. This is a limited program as only 50 participants will be accepted every year, including new and returning.
The deadline for initial application submission is Monday, September 20th. Submission can also be virtual as students can email Ms.Tiffany at tperry@ulbcfl.org or call her for any questions at (954) 625-2578. Students that need to speak to someone at school can stop by Mrs. Delance in the front office
