Players recognized for their success

The 2023 Deerfield Beach High School all-county boys’ basketball team has introduced many new talented players that are willing to dribble their way onto the selections. The players’ shocked reactions to being selected for the all-county have motivated them to keep doing their best as it drives their spirit. Most players are trying to better their skills to play better so they can go farther than the previous year.

“By working out more and practicing harder helped me prepare for the all-county”, said DBHS senior forward Jason Morris.

To boost their physical ability, players practice with Coach Brown’s help. The coach instructs them to do running suicides, sprinting as fast as possible to a line and returning back to where they ran from, to improve their endurance. Another exercise is practicing ball handling so they can control the ball effectively better than before.

Practicing is not the only what players work on since communicating with each other is essential to winning. One of the most important things that relate to the player’s ability to play is their mentality which determines whether they can play to their fullest potential.

“My plan for my athletic career is to keep pushing forward and reaching to the top”, said DBHS senior point guard Joe Barksdale.

Through the toughest situations, they must learn to adapt and overcome each problem to win. Each player’s position determines how well they’ll play with each other and if they have each other’s backs in different situations or problems on the court. The only thing that the all-county players can do to overcome other teams is practice and put everything they have into succeeding by challenging each other to become the best versions of themselves.

To get better, practice does not happen overnight but takes focus and dedication over several amounts of time. If players want to become the best and win, they must do whatever it takes. Including months or even years of effort and hard work to turn it into victory.
