DBHS hosts annual job and college fair
A few months remain in the school year, urging upperclassmen to start considering and taking the steps toward their future goals after graduation. Juniors and seniors are invited to the college fair and job fair hosted by Deerfield Beach High’s BRACE Program on Friday, March 3rd, in the gym. Students can be introduced to and expand their knowledge of different types of higher education and career paths they may be interested in pursuing. While it is intended for juniors to attend the college fair and seniors to the job fair, anyone is allowed to participate and indulge in whichever they please.
Those who decide to go to the job fair will be called out of class at 9:00 a.m., where they will learn about occupational opportunities, meet recruiters, and be interviewed. At least ten copies of a resume for employers at the booth to review are recommended. Template resumes for students looking for guidance are posted on the BRACE Canvas page and BRACE Remind announcements, Naviance, or the BRACE Office in room 152. The fair will end at 11:00 a.m.
This year’s job fair will have many attendants ready to inspire students and guide them to a possible profession. Some notable names include Amazon, Walmart, The Hard Rock, Publix, and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. Afterward will be the college fair at 12:30 p.m. with tables set up by representatives for institutions in and outside of the state. Representatives will give brochures, flyers, and other materials to give students details about schools that appeal to them. Information on majors, extracurriculars, locations, estimated tuition, and more will be available. So, students should ask specific, open-ended questions to get the most out of the experience. Attendants will leave 10 minutes before the school day ends at 2:30 p.m.
Students will leave these fairs with a broader knowledge of themselves and their goals. Someone clueless may find a starting point, and others with many ideas for options could narrow their list. There are significant benefits to the connections that could be made, as professional relationships give a chance to jumpstart a position as a workplace candidate or university freshman. These fairs help relieve anxiety for the future while also gaining personal insight.
