Wrestling team dominating the season

As the Deerfield Beach High wrestling season continues, the Bucks are improving every day. Coached by Mark Gadson and Jim Forbes, Deerfield is destined to be in tip-top shape before their matches. The team’s goal is to win states, and the Bucks will stick to that throughout the season.

“We want to have fun, get better, and hopefully make it to the state championship match,” said junior wrestler Trevon Chisholm.

The boys’ first match was on Saturday, December 3rd, when junior wrestler Donovan Campbell finished sixth out of fourteen in his respected weight class.

‘’I definitely could have finished higher,” Campbell said. “I was seated to place fourth. It was the first tournament of my season, and I can only go up from here. As an individual, I am setting my goal to go to states this year, doing better than the season before.”

The JV team has had success early in the season as well. They’ve had two matches against Cardinal Gibbons High School and have another on Tuesday, January 10th at Cardinal Gibbons.

Gadson and Forbes make sure all of the wrestlers are using the correct form and technique during practices, so it gets carried into the game. Practice makes perfect and with these coaches at hand, the Bucks are set up for success.

“The coaches do a really good job coaching us and correcting our form during practice,” junior wrestler Julian Garcia said.

The FHSAA Duals District Tournament is to be completed by Saturday, January 7th. Check the FHSAA site for more information on this tournament and the other playoff tournaments to come.
