The lady bucks take charge

Following a 7-11 season, the Deerfield Beach High School girls’ basketball team is looking to make major improvements for this upcoming year. The Lady Bucks started their previous season winning four out of their first six games. It went downhill from that point on, losing eight out of their next nine games and finishing the regular season with a record of 6-10. They played against West Boca Raton High in the first round of the district playoffs and won convincingly, 70-35. Spanish River High put an end to Deerfield’s season, winning 72-68 in the District Semifinals game.

This is a new year for the Lady Bucks, and they are out for blood. With countless hours of conditioning, they’re going to be more than prepared for the 2022-2023 season. Head coach Shueteamia Brayboy and assistant coach Christopher Hall are ensuring the girls will be in tip-top shape.

“Conditioning these girls is very important,” Coach Brayboy said. “In order to be successful and keep up with the opponents, they have to be in the best shape possible.”

The playoff game against Spanish River opened the eyes of many, and the coaches realize that. They want what is best for the program and they’re going to do everything in their power to bring the team to the next level.

“This year is going to be special,” Coach Hall said. “We are working really hard during practice and conditioning. I think we will be very successful this season.”

The first games of the 2022-2023 season will be in a preseason classic against Piper High, Monarch High, Western High, Cooper City High, Fort Lauderdale High, and Palm Beach Central High at Deerfield Beach High. The first game of the regular season will be Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at Deerfield Beach High at 6:00 p.m.
