Girls’ Basketball First 12 Games Insight

The Deerfield Beach Lady Bucks are in the midst of a playoff push, and they’re looking to finish strong.

This seasons’ conclusion for Deerfield Beach High’s girls’ basketball team is quite hard to predict how it will end. Wins and losses seem to be following one another, leaving everyone unsure how to view the Bucks’ most recent performance.

Starting strong early, the girls’ basketball team entered their season with a promising look at future games. The Lady Buck’s dominated the court during the first game leaving a final score of 57-10 on the gym’s scoreboard.

The girls followed up their first win with another, against the McArthur Mustangs with a 54-37 victory, creating the early onset win streak. The streak was kept alive during the next few matches until Deerfield played against longtime rivals. Blanche Ely High ran onto Deerfield’s basketball court and walked off with a 76-21 victory.

“Our first 12 games should have been way better,” said sophomore guard Arielle Facyson. “We made careless mistakes that never should have happened. I say we’re way better than what the stats say.”

Since the loss to Ely, the Lady Bucks have been ending their game by winning with a small lead or being crushed by the sheer size of their opponent’s score. One of the more notable matches was against St. Thomas with, a final score of 77-23.

“Going into future games, we will take new information from our opponents for when we eventually face them,” Facyson said. “For example, finding a film and watching how the opposite team plays and studying them, so we can know what to expect.”

Facyson expects to be victorious in the last two games against Monarch and Dillard.

Fortunately for the Bucks, ending their season on a high point is looking to be a possible outcome. The Deerfield beach team has been going strong once again after their 12th game, a match-up against Plantation. The girls finished their game ending with a 70-24 win.

How this season will conclude is not easy to predict but, no matter what the stats say, the Lady Bucks continue to train and persevere, determined to bring home a win once more.
