Welcoming students to the Media Center

The School Library Has Opened

Whether preparing for testing or catching up on a book series, there is always a reason to use the library. Libraries provide students with the necessary resources to do online research, take a break, and complete assignments.

Every student will need to use books and a computer in their lives, but not everyone has access to such resources. After a year and a half of the DBHS Media Center being closed, it recently opened, giving students the ability to go before and during school hours.

“I hated the fact that kids did not have access to check out books and to use computers,” testing coordinator Michele Eade said, “so I decided to volunteer at the Media Center a few periods a day so kids can have access.”

The goal of Deerfield Beach High is to give kids free, accessible books and computer access when they need it. All computers are linked to the coined printer, so anyone that needs to print can do so. Aside from providing resources, the school library acts as a place for students to relax and have some time to themselves.

“They’ll be able to use computers, print, check out fiction and non-fiction books, and do research,” Eade said, “It’s a place where they can come during their lunchtime if they don’t want to go into the chaos out there.”

In the next two years Principal, Jon Marlow sees the library undergoing some renovations to make further improvements. As more people begin entering, tables will be added to fill the empty spaces and make room for more people.

With 30 to 50 books checked out each day, the library is doing well with an influx of excited students. Everyone is welcome before school, at 7:30 am, during first and fifth period, and A and B lunch.

The media center is committed to providing unbiased, accurate, and engaging information that satisfies any need for a student. Whether it’s hitting the books, going for a break, or using the internet, Deerfield Beach High encourages everyone to stop by the Media Center.
