 International mother’s day

Motherhood is one of the most demanding responsibilities that a woman can undertake in her lifetime. Expressing gratitude for a mother’s hard work and care is essential. In the United States, Mother’s Day is observed on the second Sunday of May each year.

Throughout history, the celebration of motherhood has been a longstanding tradition. It is said to have originated in ancient Greece, where a festival was held in honor of Rhea, the mother of all gods. Rhea symbolized the virtues of fertility, motherhood, and the continuity of generations. In the United States, Mother’s Day can be traced back to 1907, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial in honor of her mother on May 12th. Due to its growing popularity, Mother’s Day was established as a national holiday in 1914 and continues to be celebrated annually.

The day of officially celebrating motherhood in the United States was first observed in the early 20th century to recognize the contributions of mothers to society and families. It is an occasion to appreciate all the things that mothers do and the sacrifices they make. Motherhood involves many sacrifices, such as emotional, financial, and often career sacrifices, as mothers tend to prioritize the happiness of others before their own. Mothers have a profound impact on children’s growth and development.

“I love my mother because she is strong”, said DBHS senior, Sterwendy Blanc. “She has sacrificed so much and is the reason I have confidence today.”

Many countries worldwide are filled with various traditions and customs to celebrate Mother’s Day. A common way to acknowledge the day of celebrating and honoring is with large bouquets of roses, homemade cards, and special outings. Many cultures celebrate with festivals and customs involving food, gifts, and songs. The holiday presents a huge opportunity for businesses of all sizes to capitalize on consumer spending, with approximately $33.5 billion spent worldwide.

On Mother’s Day, it is crucial to honor and recognize all mothers for their unwavering sacrifices, love, and compassion. This is a way of expressing deep appreciation for their tireless dedication and hard work. It is equally important to thank them every day for everything they do.
