Screams Vs Squeals

Fight against horror vs comedy continues

Everyone loves a good comedy movie here and there, or maybe something more, such as a horror movie. This sparks debates on whether a scary film or perhaps a comedic movie is better. There will always be the choice of something that’ll give thrills or make someone bend over with laughter.

Horror movies started around the 1890s-1920s, gaining popularity over time. The first ever horror movie recorded is “The House Of The Devil.” A three-minute film created by Georges Méliès.

The first recorded comedy movie was L’Arroseur Arrosé (Tables Turned on the Gardener), a silent 1-minute comedy. Louis Lumière created and released this film in 1895.

Now comes the highly sought-out question of which one is better.

Horror movies usually contain more plots and are viewed the most. These movies are for those who enjoy giving themselves a little scare or those who watch for a good plot twist. Typically, horror movies are favored the most and are more well known. Although this stands, comedy movies aren’t too far from the popularity of horror films. However, no need to settle for just one, horror-comedies exist. To create a horror comedy, it needs to be perfectly balanced. Some people prefer horror over comedy; others prefer comedy over horror.

Horror films are perfect for a rainy night, in blankets, popcorn at night with the lights off, and perfect during October. Comedy movies are perfect for any day, any time of the year, or any mood.

Comedies usually have a small plot to entertain people with funny scenes. Take “Home Alone.” for example. These movies are created purely for the viewer to have a laugh or two. That does not mean comedies can’t have a good concept.

Debating genres is like comparing preferences. Everyone has different tastes and what they prefer in a movie. Some enjoy the thrill of jumpscares while others like laughing at people for their silly mistakes.

Horror is for those who want a good plot and a good scare, which many people like over comedy, making it more favored and popular.
