Deerfield starts the 2022 season strong

The Deerfield Beach High Bucks swim and dive team started their 2022 season off with a splash. In their first meet on August 24th, they swam against the Monarch High Knights and fought hard in their races. Swimming is an individual sport where the swimmer sets goals specifically for their performance in order to win.

Junior swimmer Enzo De Freitas kicked off the meet, swimming the medley, which includes the backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and freestyle. De Freitas keeps his focus throughout the races and doesn’t let anything act as a distraction to him while he’s in the water.

“Swimming is one of those things where you can dial in on it and just think about swimming and keeping your stroke right and keep a good pace,” De Freitas said.

On August 31st, Deerfield faced off against Stoneman Douglas in their second swim meet of the season. They competed well against a talented Eagles team in a variety of events.

It’s always good to celebrate after big games, and that’s exactly what Deerfield does.

Celebrating after a big meet is a tradition that the Bucks have started.

“After big swim meets, we will go out for a big team dinner to celebrate,” De Freitas said.

The Bucks’ next meet is scheduled for September 8th against Hollywood Hills and Monarch at 4:00 P.M. at DBHS. Students can come out and fill out the student section in a show of support. Details on the BCAA District Swim Meet on Thursday, October 6th at Markham Park at 1:30 P.M. are still being released at this time.
