The new barbie movie
Barbie by Mattel is an iconic doll and franchise that has been around since 1959, entertaining little kids everywhere. She is a symbol of a very feminine woman that can do anything she puts her mind to whether it is becoming a vet or an astronaut. There will be no exception when Barbie hits the big screens in the new live-action Barbie movie in 2023.
Barbie stars in 41 animated movies. The first Barbie movie made was Barbie in the Nutcracker in 2001. The most recent Barbie movie is Barbie: Mermaid Power, released in 2022. Barbie even has an animated TV series called Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse, released in 2012. It is clear that Barbie has been a part of many generations in different versions.
“I hope the new movie presents women empowerment and shows little girls they can be anything they set their mind to. I’m also really excited about fashion because Barbie is known for her style and her signature color pink. I think that we are going to see the color pink make a comeback into fashion this year because of it,” said DBHS junior Regaina Lumley.
The movie is due to come out on July 21st of this summer. It stars actress Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. Both are highly known for their previous works such as Ryan Gosling in The Notebook and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.
Many were hoping to hear the iconic Barbie-themed song, Barbie Girl by Aqua, in the upcoming movie. Especially since it’s release in 1997, the song has sold over eight million copies worldwide and was the number one song in over ten countries. However fans were disappointed to hear that the hit song would not be featured in the film.
“Barbie to me is a powerful young woman that does whatever she wants. She has her dream job but also travels, shops, and still has time to hang out with her family and friends. She has the perfect balance of work and home life that everyone hopes for,” said DBHS junior Regaina Lumley.
Barbie is always on these adventures that capture the attention of her viewers. She could be a mermaid princess in one movie and a musketeer in another. Wait to see what comes up next from the upcoming Barbie movie
