DBHS Spring Play

Deerfield Beach High School thespians will soon be seen reenacting the written play “Rinse, Repeat” by Domenica Feraud. This stage play will take place in the auditorium on Friday, April 28th, and Saturday, April 29th. The showing on Friday will take place between 5th and 6th period, and Saturday’s show will start at 6:30 p.m.

Rinse, Repeat is a drama that follows its main character Rachel who was released from the treatment for unhealthy dieting, the hospital approved a trial weekend and Rachel was ecstatic to see her family again but soon realizes they might be the cause of her problems. In short, Rinse, Repeat is about struggling with societal standards and how the people you love may be the problem.

The themes of the play are family, unity, and mental health. According to an interview by Ruthie Fierburg, Domenica Feraud wrote Rinse, Repeat because she felt other pieces of media like tv shows and plays do not represent these habits, and when they do, it’s more of a one-and-done at the end of the episode. She wrote Rinse, Repeat not only to accurately represent a community but because she also struggled with eating disorders like the main character.

In another interview, Feraud explains she was frustrated with the lack of proper representation of an illness that so many people struggle with, and creating the play could help to shine a light on the subject instead of adding to the stigma that other pieces of media do. Having struggled with unhealthy diets she knew the play needed to accurately represent illnesses because many people struggle with them. Having an accurate depiction of the problems will take away from the stigma and that was the goal Feraud was trying to achieve.

The play features Deerfield Beach High’s very own students and will be directed by acting teacher Ms. Torres. Tickets can be bought in the e-store, for $10, or in person. Students can get a discounted price but to do so they must buy tickets in person and have a valid school I.D. Everyone is encouraged to buy tickets.
