Soccer’s mid-season update

The Deerfield Beach Highs boys’ and girls’ 2022-2023 soccer season is underway. Both teams have been working extremely hard to make the most of their season. In their last two games against Boyd Anderson and Pompano Beach, the Bucks look to continue their success. The boys’ record through the first seven games is 6-0-1. The girls hold a record of 1-5-1 but are improving game by game.

The girls’ team is full of new players and fresh, youthful faces. The chemistry needed to build quickly to achieve their pre-season goals. They are training hard and getting the hang of it. Deerfield’s girls are fighters and will kick the competition off the field. Head Coach Jordan Edouard is confident in her athletes and believes in their abilities as young soccer players.

“We can surprise a lot of people once the team starts clicking,” Edouard said.

Being in a new district this season, the Bucks face the challenge of learning new opponents’ schemes and adjusting to how they play. Deerfield needs to play its game and not let the opponent get the best of them. While the boys are undefeated, the girls have one win this season. There is still high confidence in both Deerfield soccer teams to make a far playoff push.

“There is an incremental improvement in their skills. I know the girls are struggling right now, but they must remain positive and work hard during practice,” Edouard said. “By the time we get to late January, the girls will be better, and we might even win the district playoffs.”

With all this pressure, these players must remain positive and open-minded, so they can work hard and stay strong. The boys are taking care of business, with only allowing two goals all season. The famous line “defense wins championships” just may be the case for Deerfield Beach High’s boys’ soccer team.

“The expectation is that we can win our district,” boys head coach Frantz Edouard said. “We are in first place now, and that is the expectation.”

There are still some openings for the girls’ soccer team. Visit Mr. Edouard in room 238 in the math corridor during lunch or free periods with permission from a teacher. Make sure to have physicals completed and a copy of an insurance card attached if students plan to try out.

The next game will be against Monarch High School on Wednesday, December 14th, at Deerfield Beach High School.
