Old Myths with a Futuristic Twist

Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympian book series was introduced to young readers 16 years ago, drawing many into the world of gods and demigods. Years following the books, a film series with the same names as the first two books, was produced. In recent months, Disney, alongside the author, has decided to make a reboot of the series.

Many young readers have read the series and have watched the films based on the first two books. However, fans were left disappointed with the movies. The author didn’t want to let the only movies about his books influence the way others would think of the story before getting to truly know it. With the help of Disney, Riordan will be working closely with the directors to make the tv show similar to the books.

Some fans that did not enjoy the films picked up the books to read and while others without prior knowledge of the plot found it interesting because they didn’t know what they were missing out on. The first film didn’t receive positive feedback because of noticeable differences in characters and events.

The first Percy Jackson Movie, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, was released on February 12, 2019. The story starts with Percy Jackson discovering that he is the son of the Greek sea god Poseidon. Percy is thrown into a world of demigods, monsters, and gods. The mightiest of the gods have labeled him dangerous and a thief, so he must embark on a dangerous journey to prove his innocence to stop the feud between the gods.

Readers had high expectations because of the books, but the movie did not deliver satisfaction. The movie received mixed reviews on the film, and the production of the series continued with Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters.

After the release of the second movie, the series was finalized because it proved to be a low-performing film franchise. It had alienated fans, and the actors were growing older. The author is not a fan of the movies and has not watched them. Riordan has pointed out the fantastic work the actors put in the film, however, the film was different from the original story everyone was hoping to watch.

Rick Riordan and Jon Steinberg will write the pilot with James Bobin directing. Filming has not started yet as auditions for the casting concluded a few months ago, but the author confirmed that filming is due to begin in Vancouver in June.

Even though the filming for the tv series has not started, many have hope for the reboot. With the author working closely, the show will be starting fresh to deliver the story fans have read.
