Getting to know the team

Entering the final quarter of school and the last weeks of sports is the perfect time to spotlight the student-athletes representing Deerfield Beach High. The Bucks track team has had four meets and they remain eager and motivated each time they step onto the field. The team is full of hard-working students who will continue their hard work and practice throughout the season.

For their training regimen, they do a variety of exercises to keep them in shape for upcoming meets. They begin by stretching and running multiple events with small breaks, followed by a cool down and more stretching. Before meets, they always warm up and set up as a team.

They also work together as a team to communicate and focus on their goal which is to end the season confident and proud of what they accomplish. The coach and players agree that the team thrives because of their unity, communication, and hard work.

“I value hard work and competing at your best. If you don’t have any goals or expectations, you are not going to be successful,” Coach Williams said.

“The most positive aspect of the team has to be the motivation everyone has for each other,” Long-distance runner Brianna Fisher said, “I feel like we all get along very well and push each other to the best of our ability. It is a very healthy environment,”

Everyone on the team contributes and is valued. Fisher highlights their significance.

“I think my role in the team is the same as everyone else since every person plays an important part. Even if someone on the team is quiet, practice is not the same if they aren’t there,” Fisher said.

Being a track runner means more than just being physically fit and disciplined, the mentality of the runner matters just as much.

“Being in shape is always a plus, but what makes a runner a runner is their mindset and ability to push through even when they think they can’t,” Fisher said.

She is pushing herself to new limits by running the 400, 800, and mile. She is usually a long-distance runner and runs the 800 and the mile. Yet ever since the first meet, she has also been running in the 400.

“Something else I would like to add is our appreciation for the coaches. Coach Brown, William, and T are always pushing us to do our best,” Fisher said as she praised her coaches, “They bring snacks for the meets and believe in us when it comes to the races. Hard work and practice pay off and they all are always making sure we are doing just that.”

As they wrap up the season, each runner continues to compete to the best of their ability.

“I have high expectations for the season. We have a great track team. We are pretty small, but we have a lot of talent, and I expect us to go far, individually, and team-wise,” Coach Williams said.

The track and field team has upcoming home meets on March 30th and April 6th. The team is excited and looking forward to being able to compete.
