Being educated is the first step to voting
With November comes the famous Thanksgiving holiday that is known as the season of warmth and giving. While this is a time for families to come together and celebrate, it is not the only reason people are gathering this month.
Elections bring in large crowds of buzzing people during this seasonal month. These are people who are about to give their input on who should be the next president of the United States, and this is no small task.
Many factors play into voting in the election, such as the different parties and candidates that are running. While Democratic and Republican Parties are the most common, they are not the only options that will be on the ballot.
Researching the backgrounds and political views of candidates is essential for casting your vote.
“Everyone should research the candidates on their ballots,” junior, Kahlila Torres said. “Knowing what they stand for will make for an educated vote”
After a president is elected, they will determine the outcome of the country for the next four years. Although some students still aren’t able to participate in elections, they continue to share their opinions and collect information about each candidate.
“If I could vote, I would because I want my voice to be heard, “ sophomore Courtney Gift said. “I want to partake in something that could be beneficial to me, my friends, family, and people I don’t know.”
Biden is gaining a lot of attention and support for his views on the right of a woman to have an abortion, LGBTQ+ rights, police reform, immigration, and gun control. He has the popular vote among people of color according to recent polls done by Washington Post.
“I believe Joe Biden will be the one to prosper because of all the support from people of color such as myself,” sophomore, Makel Delva said.
On the other side of this election, President Donald Trump is campaigning to earn the support of voters so that he has a chance to be re-elected this year. Trump is using his platform to talk about his support for foreign policy issues and matters about the economy and trade.
“The economy is the best it’s ever been,” sophomore Nolan Debrocq said. “He has the lowest unemployment rate and has solved many other important issues during his presidential term.”
This November welcomes a nail-biting election that will announce the next president of the United States. The candidates stand for different views, and this draws a line between their supporters. Although there is tension in the air, people still come together on election day to cast their votes and make their voices heard.
