On the first Monday of every month, Broward County Public Schools hosts a health fair that provides valuable information about Sexual transmitted diseases, safe sex, and disease preventions for teenagers attending Deerfield Beach High School. Some of the companies that will be present at Deerfield High are Diversity, Prevention, and Intervention Department from Broward County Public Schools, Latinos Salud, World Aids Museum, etc. The fair will be hosted during A and B lunches in front of the rotunda on May 1st, 2017.
The companies will be handing out pamphlets and offering safe tips. This fair gives students a chance to learn about staying safe if they are, or are going to be sexually active. If attending, students are given the opportunity to get a free HIV test and more.
Unfortunately, Broward County has the Second-Highest AIDS rate in Florida. With that being said, it is vital for students to be protected when being sexually active. The goal of this event is for students in the Broward County community to be aware of the resources surrounding them, and to take advantage of those services. For further information about the fair, see Mr. May.
