Like to dance? Ever thought about dancing for 24 hours? Dance Marathon, DM, is a club that sets up events and creates different teams throughout the club to help raise money for the UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital. UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital has partnered with the Children’s Miracle Network to create one of the greatest facilities of care for children and young adults. The Children’s Miracle Network is an international non-profit organization devoted to raising funds and awareness for children’s hospitals.

College dance marathons run 48 hours non-stop. Deerfield Beach High School students are lucky enough to be able to get the opportunity to dance 24 hours for kids who cannot in order to raise money for children’s hospitals. DBHS teacher, Ms. De Alameda, is the lovely sponsor for the DBHS DM club and the students in charge are president Maria Forero, president in training Matthew Blade, treasurer Katie Swerdloff and secretary Amy Bissonnette. The DBHS DM club goal is to raise 7,000 dollars, $500 more than last year, which was a feat of 6,500 dollars.

How does the DBHS DM club work? Each DM club member with split into teams of 4. From there, teams will compete to raise to the most money by individual fundraising and participating in events that the students in charge create. The Dance Marathon is an upcoming event with it’s dates to be announced. If interested in joining, students can contact the coordinators via email at dancemarathondbhs.com.
