A nearly a year of hard work and preparation has lead up to one mid Spring night at Deerfield Beach High School. For DBHS sophomores in the International Baccalaureate magnet program and their families, Thursday March 31st marks a day of great significance in their high school careers. The IB Sophomore Recognition ceremony has arrived.
This ceremony is held to recognize the successful efforts of 10th grade IB students to complete a personal project assigned to them at the end of their freshmen year. The students have the summer following their freshman year and a large portion of their sophomore year to complete the project. Their project is meant to reflect something the students are creatively passionate about, ranging from creating computers to writing literary works. Along with the project itself, the students must also write a report describing the project.
At the ceremony, those attending can view snippets or previews of some of the exemplary projects the students had turned in. These projects can be view in full in the media center on the days following the ceremony. IB students who have turned in the project will all receive award certificates for their efforts.
The ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the DBHS auditorium. Despite the ceremony being focused around the accomplishments of IB students, all who are interested in their creations are welcome to attend the ceremony.
